Prof. Luisa María Arvide Cambra is a distinguished scholar with over 40 years of experience in Arabic and Islamic Studies, specializing in medieval Arabic science and medicine. Her research includes the medical writings of Al-Zahrawi, a pioneer in surgical and aesthetic procedures. She has published extensively and held visiting positions at institutions such as Harvard, Cambridge, and Leiden. As Director of the HUM113–Philological Studies Group, she engages in interdisciplinary research on the historical roots of medical and surgical practices, with a focus on classical Arabic texts and medieval science.
