Title: Efficacy of low energy fractional CO2 Laser in the treatment of alopecia areata

Abstract

Alopecia areata is one of the common hair problems in the practice of the dermatologist. There are many methods that have been successfully used in the treatment of alopecia areata, starting from topical steroid, intra-lesional steroids, topical calcineurin inhibitors and many other topical treatments. Systemic therapies also been tried as systemic steroids in the extensive alopecia areata. Recently JAK inhibitors like tofacitinib tried with satisfactory results in some cases. One of the principles of alopecia areata patches is to induce microcirculation, that might induce the growth of hair shaft from hair follicles. In a clinical trial that was conducted by us was to use low level fractional CO2 laser as much as 15 w/sec. The results were compared to the other patch as split face other modality using CO2 fractional laser and topical triamcinolone solution aright after the procedure. The results showed satisfactory results in both modalities with a comparable regrowth in patches with CO2 fractional laser as monotherapy.

Biography

Dr. Dindar Sharif Qurtas is a highly accomplished medical professional with a diverse and distinguished career in the field of dermatology. Graduating with an MBChB from Hawler Medical University in 2002, he furthered their education by obtaining a Master's degree from Mordovia State University in 2008 and a PhD from Russian State Medical University in Moscow in 2011. Since 2019, he has held the position of Assistant Professor in Dermatology. Throughout their career, he has taken on various leadership roles, serving as the Deputy of Planning Director at the Department of Health in Erbil from 2012 to 2015, heading the Scientific Researches Unit from 2013 to 2016, and leading the Dermatology Department at Hawler Teaching Hospital from 2014 to 2016. Currently, he serves as the Director of Erbil Dermatology Teaching Center, Head of the Dermatology Unit at Hawler Medical University, and Program Director of Dermatology at the Kurdistan High Council for Medical Specialties. He has also played a crucial role as a Supervisor of Training at the Arab Board for Health Specializations in Erbil Center, showcasing their commitment to education and training in the medical field.
