Non microsurgical oncologic facial reconstruction for skin cancer patients
Abstract
The main objective in the treatment of facial skin neoplasms is to cure the patients. Although radical treatment is highly expected, it may lead to major remaining facial defects. Once the patient is cured, it is desirable that the defect resulting from the surgery be corrected, reestablishing the shape, volume and position of the tissues as close to normal as possible. Many surgical procedures can be used for this purpose. Living in a small to medium-sized city, the surgeon needs to know how to use the best surgical technics for facial reconstruction, which normally does not include microsurgery.
The author demonstrates his 34 years of experience in facial oncological reconstruction without the use of microsurgery, even for complex defects arising from surgical treatment. Many surgical tips for facial reconstruction will be demonstrated to dermatologists and plastic surgeons, benefiting patients submitted to surgery for facial skin cancer.
