Title: Comparative Evaluation of Chlorhexidine Polymer Scaffold, 3Mixtatin, and Formocresol for Vital Primary Pulp Therapy: A Randomized 6-month Clinical Study

Abstract

Pulpotomy is considered as minimally invasive approach for vital pulp therapy in paediatric patients. The vital pulp therapies in alleviated pain, pulpal infection and associated symptoms. The ideal pulpotomy medicaments should have appropriate sealing ability, bio-inductive, biocompatibility, bactericidal, non – toxic and promote healing of radicular pulp without interfering with the physiological root resorption. Buckley’s Form cresol (1:5 dilution) is the  traditionally used material with significant success rate and popularity. Chlorhexidine is an bactericidal and bacteriostatic  agent active against wide range of  microorganisms such as gram positive, gram negative including enterococcus faecalis, yeasts and fungi. The use of biomaterial in polymeric scaffold possessing antimicrobial properties have gained huge interest in local drug delivery system as they increase surface area of drug carrier which enhances the drug  dissolution rate. 3Mixtatin is an active/recently used pulpotomy medicament and consists of 1 part metronidazole, 1 part ciprofloxacin, 1 part of cefixime and 2 mg of simvastatin. SIMVASTATIN stimulates human dental pulp stem cells (hDPSCs), mineralization and also promote  hDPCs induced pulpal and dentin regeneration after pulpotomy. It has anabolic effect and promote osteoblastic and odontoblastic differentiation However, there is scarcity of literature available regarding the use of chlorhexidine scaffold polymer and 3Mixtatin as pulpotomy material in pediatric molar teeth. The study was performed to evaluate and compare the clinical and radiographic efficacy of chlorhexidine polymer scaffold, 3Mixtatin and form cresol for vital primary pulp therapy – A randomized clinical study”
