Title: Comparative evaluation of soft and hard tissue changes following dental implant placement with flap and flapless technique - A clinical and radiographical study

Abstract

For the placement of successful dental implant there should be a good biologic connection between implant and bone. Implant placement in a healthy alveolar bone results in long term success rate and Osseointegration. The conventional technique for implant placement includes elevation of mucoperiosteal flap after crestal incision, which facilitated visualisation of the anatomical structures that have to be cared during implant placement whereas in a flapless procedure, a dental implant is installed through the mucosal tissues without reflecting a flap. The primary reasons to choose the flapless technique are to minimize the possibility of postoperative peri-implant tissue loss and to overcome the challenge of soft tissue management during or after surgery. Implants were placed in 14 patients with a single edentulous site either with conventional flap technique or flapless technique consists of 7 implants in each technique. All the patients were evaluated for soft and hard tissue parameters such as peri-implant PD and crestal bone loss radiographically up to 6 months follow up.
