Title: Gingival depigmentation by scraping method by scalpel

Abstract

Among the infinite creatures in the world comprising of animals and humans, a creature gets the birth in the form of human being, after infinite period. Human being is called as a creature who is made up of so many emotions like joy, sorrow, fear, and happiness. Among these emotions, the most favorite emotion of a human being is to be in a state of happiness.  To enjoy this emotion of happiness, a human being tries every possibility to do those things which can make them happy. This Happiness is reflected on a human being face in the form of a facial expression smile, which is considered as the most wonderful gesture of the human being.  It is rightly said that smile is a curve that sets everything straight. A Person who is genuinely happy shows his or her pleasure in the form of smile. A beautiful smile for sure enhances individual self-confidence. A beautiful smile lies in a harmonical balance between competent lips, size, color and proper alignment of teeth and the color of gums. The normal color of gums is coral pink as in accordance to British population, and pale pink as in accordance to Indian population. However, this gum pigmentation varies among every individual in accordance with the color of the skin, various pigments present in human body like melanin, hemoglobin, carotene. However, this melanin when secreted in excess, can lead to brownish, blackish, discoloration of gums, and can influence a person smile to an extent that a person loses his or her confidence in the society and henceforth it becomes an important esthetic concern. This discoloration in the field of Periodontology is denoted by the term hyperpigmentation, and the procedure to overcome this hyperpigmentation is called as depigmentation. This depigmentation procedure can transform the person blackish, brownish color of gums into the color which is acceptable and presentable and can boost up the person’s confidence into the society. Hence the correction of the color of a person’s gums is one of the esthetic modalities in the field of Periodontology. My Present Poster is on a 21 years old female whose chief complaint was visual blackish display of gums while smiling. So, the procedure depigmentation of gums was done by surgical scalpel by scraping method, and the patient showed good results following two weeks after procedure.

Biography

Dr. Pooja Bharadwaj had completed her BDS in 2015, and later her MDS in the field of Periodontology & Oral Implantology in 2020 from Peoples College of Dental Sciences & Research Centre, India. At present, she is working as an assistant professor in the department of Periodontology at Rishiraj College of Dental Sciences & Research Centre, India. She is the editor in chief in one journal and in the editorial board of 10 journals. She has over 14 publications, and received many awards in the field of Periodontology like the young researcher award, emerging researcher of the year, young scientist award, emerging academician in the field of Periodontology award, budding Periodontist of the year award. Dr. Pooja Bharadwaj has a keen interest in exploring the field of Periodontal Medicine She has published her two books in a reputed publication house in 2021 and 2022. Dr. Pooja Bharadwaj has 6 years’ experience in the field of Periodontology.
