Multidisciplinary approach for the treatment of pregnancy induced oral pyogenic granuloma : A case series
Abstract
Introduction: Pyogenic granuloma (PG) is Non-neoplastic lesion of oral cavity. It occurs mostly due to extreme tissue response to traumatic injury, consistent local irritation, and
hormonal factors.
Objective: This paper presents multidisciplinary approaches for the treatment of pregnancy induced PG.
Methodology: This paper presents four cases of pregnancy induced PG with varying localization in the oral cavity. Different treatment modalities were used for the excision of lesion, that includes surgical excision, laser ablation and Curettage.
Result: Alternative therapeutic approaches for removal of PG are explored, which are aimed at reducing the recurrences after surgical treatment. The utilization of laser as a treatment modality is an important factor as it reduces the rate of recurrence due to effect of laser beam reaches the
underlying bone.
Conclusion: PG represents a diagnostic challenge, specifically in cases of atypical localization. Effective surgical approach requires complete removal of the pathological process from the surrounding healthy structures in order to prevent recurrences.
